He also sent a letter to Bullock, criticizing the carbon-pricing proposal as “reckless.” He called on Bullock to reject the proposal and instead “maintain our all-of-the-above energy approach.”

KXLH: Daines asks state for more data on COVID-19 cases, deaths at senior facilities

U.S. Sen. Steve Daines is asking Gov. Steve Bullock’s office to release more information on COVID-19 cases and deaths within Montana’s senior care facilities.

Daines announced Friday that he had sent a letter to Bullock, saying the state’s data was giving “an incomplete picture of the impact of COVID-19 on Montana’s senior communities.”

While on duty at the Columbus Town Pump, the two men found themselves eye to eye with United States Sen. Steve Daines, who approached them to offer his thanks for their service.

Daines was on his way back to Bozeman at the time and made an impression.

“What a cool guy. Senator Daines came up and thanked Clay Waltner and I for the job we do. The feeling is mutual,” Ferguson wrote in a Facebook post about the event.

Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Steve Daines (R-Montana) on Thursday sent a letter to the chair and ranking member of the Dianne FeinsteinSenate Energy and Natural Resources Committee calling for a hearing to be scheduled as soon as possible on their bill, the bipartisan Emergency Wildfire and Public Safety Act. The letter comes as both California and Montana are experiencing severe wildfires and the National Wildfire Preparedness Level has been elevated to Level 4.

“Our states are currently experiencing severe wildfires, which have only been exacerbated by the challenges of fighting these natural disasters during COVID-19. In California, record-breaking heat and an unprecedented 10,849 lightning strikes have caused more than 367 new fires in just a matter of days,” wrote the senators.

KPAX: Sen. Daines hears case for additional MT drug court funding

Members of Helena’s drug-court treatment team met with Senator Daines on Friday to talk about successes and struggles. Two drug-court treatment graduates, Dawn Knowles and Joe Wolhers, said the program has helped them recover, after years of addiction and family trauma.

Daines said he’s a big proponent of treatment courts which sometimes can be funded by federal money. Helena treatment-court judge, James Reynolds, said another 80 families in Helena could benefit from the courts and that they should certainly be expanded.

Great Falls Tribune: President signs Great American Outdoors Act

The bill was led in the Senate by Republican Sen. Steve Daines of Montana and fellow GOP Sen. Cory Gardner of Colorado. They are among the Senate’s most vulnerable incumbents, and each represents a state where the outdoor economy and tourism at sites such as Rocky Mountain and Yellowstone national parks play an outsize role.

Daines and Gardner persuaded the president to support the bill at a White House meeting this year, even though Trump has repeatedly tried to slash spending for the Land and Water Conservation Fund in his budget proposals. Trump soon tweeted his support for the bill, saying it “will be HISTORIC for our beautiful public lands.″

Missoula Current: Daines introduces measure to give workers new skills in post-COVID job market

Daines on Tuesday morning introduced the Workforce Recovery and Training Services Act, saying many workers are returning to a job market that looks different than it did before the pandemic.

“As our nation continues to respond to the impacts of COVID-19, we must ensure our workers have the support they need to get back to work,” Daines said. “My bill will boost our economic recovery by connecting unemployed Montanans with local career training programs that can help them find a new job.”

Daines’s leadership on helping secure the passage of the Great American Outdoors Act through the Senate even engendered praise from Montana Democrats.

Sen. Jon Tester said on Wednesday, “Tester believes it was that broad support, including a positive conversation between Daines and President Trump, which finally convinced Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to clear the way for the legislation.”

Montana Democrat Gov. Steve Bullock, who is running against Daines in November, said, “I also applaud Steve Daines efforts in helping get this across the finish line”

NBC Montana: Daines talks new relief package for small businesses

The $50 billion bill is called the RELIEF for Main Street Act and Daines is working on the effort with U.S. Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey.

Under this bill, Montana would get $180 million. The money would go to cities and counties to distribute to small businesses with 20 employees or less.
