Bitterroot Star: Daines secures over $1.2 million for Montana’s hospitals and frontline healthcare heroes to respond to COVID-19

U.S. Senator Steve Daines announced today that Montana will be receiving an additional $1,215,034 from the CARES Act to support hospitals and other health care entities to train workforces, expand telemedicine, obtain supplies and equipment, and assist in the coordination of local health care facilities across Montana in response to COVID-19.

“This funding is critical for Montana hospitals and healthcare facilities so they can continue to fight against COVID-19,” Daines said. “I’m glad to have secured this funding for Montana and I will continue working to ensure the needs of our hospitals and healthcare heroes are met during this crisis.”

Fox News: Daines to introduce bill codifying, extending Trump’s temporary immigration restrictions

Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont., is set to introduce legislation that would codify and extend President Trump’s executive order to restrict some immigrants from entering the country due to the coronavirus pandemic, Fox News has learned.

Daines’ bill would temporarily extend the immigration ban until 60 days after the coronavirus national emergency order is lifted, with the goal of giving U.S. workers an advantage to fill necessary jobs before immigration restarts. Trump’s executive order is currently slated to expire in mid-June — although Trump has previously hinted the ban could potentially go for a “lot longer” than that.

Missoula Current: SBA issues $1.7B in loans to Montana businesses; state pays $75M in uninsurance

More than 20,000 small businesses across Montana have received funding from the Paycheck Protection Program passed by Congress in March, Sen. Steve Daines said Monday.

The funding was part of a $2 trillion package that included $350 billion earmarked for the stimulus program. Daines said 20,683 loans have been approved for Montana businesses totaling more than $1.74 billion in relief.

Senator Steve Daines (R., Mont.) asked President Trump to use “executive powers and existing authorities” as part of an effort to reinforce domestic pharmaceutical supply chains in the wake of the Wuhan coronavirus.

“Moving forward, it is important that we incentivize innovation and the development of essential medical supplies and equipment in the U.S. in response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Daines wrote in the Friday letter, adding that “ceding this position of global leadership to China” would “impair our ability to combat the current or future public health crises.”
